For the most part, Trent Lakes is a cottage and tourist county with more people gravitating to the area as of late becoming residents because of the closeness to Toronto and the new 407 highway making commute times much faster. Trent Lakes is part of Peterborough County, with a population of about 6,439. The Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park surrounds Catchacoma Lake and Mississagua Lake. Also, we have a community of advent cottagers living along the Trent Severn Water Way. Many boats go through the Trent system during the summer months. Several communities originally meant to be cottage use are now home to permanent residents who live year-round. They have one public school in the area, and all other students are bused to local schools outside the municipality.
